Tutor’s thoughts: Spring really is for cleaning

A sought after module in business training is Time Management. Key to time management is efficiency. Crucial to efficiency is organisation. But before any of this happens we need to purge.

If your child is sitting GCSEs or A Levels in a couple of months and still has not truly committed to a study week timetable, perhaps there is one thing that you can do to help. Order a pizza (or replace pizza with any healthy alternative that you prefer – pizza is better for this though) and hold a meeting in your son’s bedroom. The agenda is to mind map what can be thrown out of the bedroom, especially the study area.

Finish mind map. Eat last bits of crust. Begin throwing away all unwanted items. Be ruthless.

It is amazing how this can clear your mind and allow you to focus on what needs to be done. Physical clutter = Mind clutter.

I would do the same with children of all ages, including primary school students. So many parents ask me what they could do over the holidays to support their children’s learning. Of course, I always supply them with academic exercises to do. Not today. Today I urge you to purge. It’s never too early to teach your child this important habit. It will serve her for life! Do it together. Have fun.
